Cell Phones + Driving = Moronic Classmates

My cognition class is usually a cause for snoozing on my part. Today, not so much. The professor has decided to teach a study, that was fairly recent, about the use of cell phones while driving. When the prof said that people who use a cell phone while driving are 4 TIMES more likely to have an accident... you wouldn't beLIEVE the number of people who objected to it!

"Well, the experiment was a simpler version, and you're not using all that much attention, but a driving situation is harder, and if there's a lot of stuff going on to divide your attention, its not a big deal if there's One more thing like a cell phone, right?"
(Holy Shit! Please tell me you don't drive!)

"I talk all the time on the cell phones with my friends, and I don't really use much of my brain to talk to them"
Prof's response - "I think you're insulting the people you talk with..."
(in my head - right, of COURSE Mr Gino boy doesn't think while talking...)

Its funny, cause I just finished listening to a report on Quirks and Quarks on the subject.

Quirks and Quarks Episode, Feb 16

The surprising results?
- talking on cell phone while driving makes you 4x more likely to have an accident
- hands-free cell phones don't make a difference, as its the CONVERSATION that interferes with the Verbal Short-term memory you need to talk yourself through more complicated driving (Ally, there's a red light, need to stop.... FUCKER came out of no where, BRAKE!)
- listening to radio or audiobooks does not make a difference
